The Tweetsie Trail is the old ET&WNC (“Tweetsie”) railroad bed between Elizabethton and Johnson City — about 10 miles of crushed gravel, gentle grade, river and pasture views. We are about 10–15 minutes from the Elizabethton end. Ride or e-bike the trail, eat downtown, then come back to the cabins. We do not rent bikes.
Monarch Mountain Cabins: two private units on five wooded acres, each with a hot tub. E-bikes make the full out-and-back realistic for mixed-ability groups.
E-bikes, rentals, rules
Class-1 style e-bikes are commonly used on the Tweetsie. Confirm current trail etiquette (yield, speed, leash) the morning you ride. Rentals sit on the trail, not at our driveway:
- Pedals on Rails — Elizabethton, adjacent to the Tweetsie; family bikes and e-bikes (check hours; weekends are the safe bet).
- Johnson City trailhead shops (including e-bike rentals near 116 Van Brocklin Way / Maple Street) if you start on that end.
Call the shop the day before. Sunday hours can be reservation-only. Ask them about helmets, kids’ bikes, and battery range for your group.

Leashed dogs are normal on the Tweetsie. The cabin acreage is not fenced — see pets. Pair a ride with the Covered Bridge the same morning.
Frequently asked questions
Can we ride from the cabin to the trail?
There is no safe, signed bike route from the driveway. Drive to a trailhead, or rent at the Elizabethton shop and start there.
Do you store e-bikes overnight?
Ask when you book if you brought your own. Space is limited — a bike or two can usually tuck in, but we are not set up as overnight bike storage.
