Carvers Gap is the high parking area on the Roan massif where many guests start Appalachian Trail miles, grassy bald walks, and — in a typical mid-June window — Catawba rhododendron color. Some rentals sit a few miles from the gap. Monarch Mountain Cabins is a different play: a quiet Elizabethton base about 45–50 minutes from Carvers Gap, with a private hot tub waiting when you come down.
Address: 327 Jenkins Hollow Rd, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Two pet-friendly cabins. Compare at Our Cabins.

Distance honesty
| Spot | About from Monarch |
|---|---|
| Carvers Gap / Roan High Knob area | 45–50 minutes · ~27 miles |
| Roan Mountain State Park visitor area | ~35 minutes |
| Downtown Elizabethton | ~10 minutes |
We are not a cabin at the gap and not inside the state park. Guests who want doorstep AT access should look at inventory closer to the ridge. Guests who want a full kitchen, private tub, and a quieter night after bloom or leaf traffic often prefer the Elizabethton drive.
How to get to Carvers Gap
From Jenkins Hollow, plan a morning drive toward the Roan corridor (typically Elizabethton → US-19E / Roan Mountain area → high-gap routing — confirm in Google Maps; mountain roads and fog change the feel of the drive). Parking at Carvers Gap fills on rhododendron weekends and peak fall color. Leave early. Pack layers — the ridge is cooler than town. Confirm trail and garden access before you go; we do not publish fixed garden hours here.
Optional UX on publish: Google Map embed for “Carvers Gap TN/NC” — recommend yes on this post.
After the balds
Drive back to Elizabethton for dinner or groceries, then the hot tub. Pair a Carvers Gap day with:
- Park trails the next morning (~35 min) — details on the Roan hub
- A waterfall / swim-hole day at Blue Hole Falls
- Downtown photos at the Covered Bridge
Pets: welcome at the cabins with fee; trail pet rules are separate — leash and check posted guidance. Pet-friendly page.
