Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park is Elizabethton’s Revolutionary War site — Watauga River, the reconstructed Fort Watauga story, the Overmountain Men muster, and the nearby Carter Mansion. Plan a morning at the park, then come back to the woods.

Monarch Mountain Cabins is about 15 minutes from the park, at 327 Jenkins Hollow Rd, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Two private cabins, each with a hot tub, on five wooded acres. Walk the river paths and living-history grounds in the morning; come back to the trees.

The park is easy walking, good for kids, and pairs with downtown and the Covered Bridge the same day. Check the park calendar for outdoor drama and living-history weekends — those dates book lodging in town. Pets: leashed on park grounds; our acreage is not fenced. See pet-friendly cabins.
