There are two well-known “Laurel Falls” in Tennessee. The paved trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park is about two hours west. The one you can day-trip from these cabins is Laurel Fork Falls (sometimes labeled Laurel Falls) in the Pond Mountain Wilderness near Dennis Cove, on Laurel Fork Creek.
Monarch Mountain Cabins is about 25–30 minutes from the Dennis Cove approach, at 327 Jenkins Hollow Rd. Private hot tubs, kitchens, pets with a fee. Moderate hike, then a soak.
The hike
- Drive: ~25–30 minutes toward Dennis Cove / Pond Mountain from Jenkins Hollow.
- Parking: trailhead lots on the Dennis Cove / AT side. Pretty weekends fill. Narrow forest road — not the first place to learn a long trailer after dark.
- Difficulty: moderate. Rocks, roots, real climbing in sections. Not a stroller walk and not the Smokies paved Laurel Falls.
- Pets: leash. National forest rules.

Dennis Cove and Pond Mountain
Dennis Cove is the recreation area and forest road most people use to reach Laurel Fork Falls. Pond Mountain Wilderness is the name on the map. The cove has a campground and Appalachian Trail access. Frequently asked questions
Is this the Smokies Laurel Falls?
No. The paved trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, near Gatlinburg, is a different waterfall. This one is Laurel Fork Falls by Dennis Cove in Carter County.
Can we stay in Roan Mountain State Park instead?
